Who we work with

Government policy makers

We share our knowledge, best practice and the insight from rural businesses and communities to inform local, regional and national policy making and support for rural enterprise.

This involves all levels including local and regional authorities and Government departments.

We’re working with combined and local authorities to collate evidence on rural economies to support investment planning - see Evidence Review: North East Combined Authority Environment Stewardship, Coast and Rural Growth Investment Plan.

In central Government, our work is feeding into a range of departments. For example, with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), this includes regular inputs of evidence and insight, such as data from our State of Rural Enterprise Survey.

We worked with Building Digital UK to enable firms to share their views on rural broadband connection and the effect it has on their businesses.

If you’d like to talk to us about our research and evidence, discuss commissioning opportunities or speak to our Policy Advisor Ulrike Hotopp, please get in touch nicre@newcastle.ac.uk
