Rural enterprise and thriving rural communities go hand in hand. We work closely with organisations representing these communities to learn more about the challenges they face and encourage new ways of thinking.
We fund innovation associates who are embedded in local community development organisations in Northumberland and Durham – Community Action Northumberland, Haltwhistle Partnership, Prudhoe Community Partnership and the Rural Design Centre – They build on the strong links that already exist and facilitate practical innovation work to help tackle the community and enterprise challenges.
We also work on our innovation projects with community groups, such as with Humshaugh Net Zero on transitioning the parish to a more sustainable future, and with business sectors, such as with Food and Drink North East to foster the innovation and resilience of new and local markets for quality foods.
