Northern Health Futures (NortHFutures)

Overview

Northern Health Futures (NortHFutures) is a people-powered research programme that provides opportunities for everyone to engage in digital health and health-tech initiatives. Six regional universities, including Newcastle University, seven regional NHS Foundation Trusts and over 50 core partners across industry, health and care and public and voluntary sectors are working together to deliver the programme.

NortHFutures aims to address unmet health needs, inequalities, and digital exclusion in the North East and North Cumbria (NENC) region. Businesses and communities in rural areas face specific issues in relation to digital connectivity and access to health and care. The National Innovation Centre for Rural Enterprise (NICRE) is supporting NortHFutures to ensure these experiences are considered across the programme and rural stakeholders have opportunities to engage in digital health and health-tech initiatives.

Digital health research funding workshops

NortHFutures has £800,000 to allocate to research projects in the field of digital health. Funding supports research across four key themes, each grounded in the health and care needs of the NENC region.

Given the specific challenges that rural communities face in accessing digital health services, the NortHFutures team are interested in funding research that looks to improve health and wellbeing across rural spaces. To apply for funding, research teams will need to attend one of NortHFutures’ upcoming one-day workshops.

  • Developing Digital Surgical Pathways (3 & 4 Sept)
  • Living and Ageing Well with Multiple Long-term Conditions (12 & 13 Sept)
  • Promoting Health and Nutrition for Children and Young People (17 & 18 Sept)
  • Supporting Mental Health and Wellbeing (2 & 3 October)

You don’t need to be an expert in the workshop’s theme to take part. Participants will contribute to discussions on potential research and engagement opportunities related to the topic and collaborate to develop a proposal for funding from the NortHFutures Hub.

The deadline for expressions of interest is 9 August 2024.
