Seeking the community’s views – Operation Regeneration

Online survey

The National Innovation Centre for Rural Enterprise (NICRE) is working with Richmondshire Building Preservation Trust (RBPT) to help seek the community’s views on the future of the Old Grammar School, Richmond.

Operation Regeneration is a new project, led by RBPT, which it is hoped will bring people together to shape the future of the site – turning it into an asset for the community for generations to come. The school is a Grade II-listed building in the centre of Richmond which has no current or recent use and is in a poor state of repair.

NICRE is facilitating the first stages of the community engagement exercise to gather people’s ideas to help inform and shape the future of the building and grounds.

An online survey has been launched with a range of in-person events and drop-ins to be held later in the year, including sessions and activities targeted at children and young people, whose views are vital to the consultation process.

Keen to hear people's ideas

Chris Brown, Chief Executive of RBPT, said: “We are delighted to be working with NICRE on community engagement for Operation Regeneration, who bring specialist research expertise to the project.

“Understandably there is a lot of interest in the future of The Old Grammar School - it is such an important building and is much loved by locals.  We are keen to hear your ideas for how the building could be used in the future.”

Melanie Thompson-Glen, Head of Business and Innovation at NICRE, said: “We are pleased to be working with RBPT on this project to facilitate the community engagement and would encourage anyone with an interest in the future of the site to share their views.”
