The National Innovation Centre for Rural Enterprise (NICRE) is recruiting a Research Fellow to join its team at the Enterprise Research Centre (ERC).
Based at Warwick Business School, the Fellow will work with NICRE Co-director Prof Stephen Roper and deputy director Dr Kevin Mole on research related to rural enterprise.
ERC leads NICRE’s large-scale rural business survey, and the Research Fellow will be involved in this and other projects, including undertaking interviews with rural firms and support organisations, survey development and subsequent analysis.
Two State of Rural Enterprise Reports have been published from NICRE’s first survey with more than 4,000 businesses in 2021, with a second proposed for 2023.
Prof Roper said: “This is an exciting opportunity to join our NICRE team at ERC. For many years we have been delivering independent research to inform policy and practice on small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and, thanks to being a founding university partner of NICRE, our portfolio has been extended to cover rural businesses.
“Last year’s rural business survey was the first to explore firm resilience in the context of Covid-19 and its findings were significant, shedding light on how SMEs coped during the pandemic and the impact of infrastructure and networks.
“We’re planning to conduct our second survey next year and the post-holder will have a key role in that, as well as contributing to research which increases our knowledge and deepens our understanding, changing the way we think about rural enterprises.”
The post-holder will also be expected to co-author and present conference and academic papers.
