Overview
Selside Memorial Hall is an asset to the local community and residents from further afield, hosting popular events such as all-day breakfasts, pub nights, and whisky and gin tastings. However, the hall was in need of improvements, and the committee embarked on a refurbishment project with support from the Community Spaces Partnership.
The entrance hall was remodelled for better insulation, the toilets upgraded, underfloor heating extended, and a dedicated bar space was created. This work has made the hall more comfortable and attractive for bookings. Stronger ties with the local school have led to increased use for children’s parties and events.
Support from ACT, particularly around the hall’s governance, ensured that the project was a success. Now a warmer, more inviting space, Selside Memorial Hall continues to strengthen community ties, offering a vital meeting point in an agricultural area with no local pub.
