Rothbury Jubilee Institute

Towards a smart building

In the summer of 2023, Paul Cramman became the chair of Rothbury Jubilee Institute. Using funding received through the Community Spaces Partnership, Paul and the Trustees set about making the Jubilee Institute into a smarter, better connected and more eco-friendly building.

This involved:

  • Installing LED lighting
  • Switching to a new IT system for smart heating that can be controlled remotely
  • Housing the Fibre broadband hub for the local area
  • Implementing paper-free cloud storage processes for the Institute's documents
  • Planning to fit solar panels

Paul Cramman, Chair of Rothbury Jubilee Institute, explains more:

Paul said:

The Community Spaces Partnership "has been invaluable for us as a community and facility to allow us to modernise and embrace new technologies. Without it, we would be putting out prices up to cover our gas and electricity."

How Community Action Northumberland helped

Community Action Northumberland (CAN) helped facilitate this project and administer funding. CAN connected Paul and the Trustees of Rothbury Jubilee Institute to other village halls through their website, sharing best practice and ideas. CAN also offered a free energy survey to help make the hall more efficient.
