Community Energy Climathon

Upcoming Climathon event

How might we unlock community energy for rural resilience in North Yorkshire?

The National Innovation Centre for Rural Enterprise (NICRE) is partnering with infrastructure support charity Community First Yorkshire to invite you to spark local solutions across rural North Yorkshire. Come along to our upcoming Community Energy Climathon event.

Community energy is an opportunity for rural places to become more resilient in multiple ways.  Locally generated power from renewable sources is not only more environmentally sustainable.  It offers communities a buffer against global shocks and a back-up source for emergencies, for example weather events affecting mains supply.  Community energy is already powering improvements to rural infrastructure around the country: from providing a cheaper fuel supply for community spaces to supporting installation of charging points for electric vehicles.

The Community Energy Climathon event will bring together groups and organisations from across North Yorkshire to explore how community energy solutions can contribute to rural resilience.  Through the event we will develop project ideas and initiatives which have tangible impact for specific places, as well as wider economic, social and environmental benefits for the region and the UK.

If you are based in North Yorkshire and interested in developing community energy solutions, we would love for you to join us for this event. The experience and knowledge you bring will add real value in terms of shaping practical solutions that can help unlock community energy and resilient rural futures.
