Overview
In 2024, Humshaugh Net Zero set up an organisation called Humshaugh Community Solar Ltd (HCSL) to take forward its solar farm project, and to reinvest the proceeds back into Humshaugh community projects.
Humshaugh Net Zero is, essentially, a campaigning group and was not set up to run a project such as the PV farm. The members decided to establish HCSL as a Community Benefit Society. Such societies aim to secure benefits for a whole community.
The profits generated by HCSL from selling the solar energy, once operating costs have been covered, will be invested into a community fund. The aim of the fund is to provide grants and loans to Humshaugh residents to support carbon-reducing measures, such as installing:
- Energy-saving devices in homes
- Insulation
- Roof-top solar panels
- Heat pumps
The fund will also support projects to promote greater biodiversity in and around the parish of Humshaugh.
