Estarli

Overview

Estarli produce innovative, affordable e-bikes from their factory in rural Hertfordshire, for use by individuals and organisations across the UK.

Recently, they provided e-cargo bikes to London Colney Parish Council for their operations, including planting trees, cleaning up litter and engaging with schoolchildren on clean air. The e-cargo bikes were designed and built in Hertfordshire and funded through the Greener Together initiative.

The bikes have replaced the need for diesel vans in many of the parish council's day-to-day tasks. Whether it’s transporting tools for conservation work or collecting recycling from local hubs, the bike has allowed council staff to carry out their roles more swiftly, sustainably, and visibly.

Clean air campaign

London Colney is a large village with a population of nearly 10,000 residents. In 2025, London Colney Parish Council incorporated Estarli e-cargo bikes into their operations.

The e-cargo bike became a centrepiece of the council’s clean air campaign at local schools. Stationed at school gates and integrated into environmental lessons, the bike helped children and parents see a tangible, joyful alternative to short car journeys.

Soon, the bike will be available for families to loan for the school run, giving them a chance to experience active travel in real life.

Community partnerships

Due to the e-cargo bikes' efficiency, carrying power and flexibility, they are now embedded in the council’s wider network of community partnerships, such as:

  • Weekly recycling runs to The Green House hub
  • Collaborations with MKM Building Merchants
  • Joint projects with the London Colney Scouts
  • Work with Pearce Recycling

The visibility of the bike is an example of environmental leadership, and residents have taken notice. Council staff frequently receive compliments and curious questions while out on the road.

Successes and future plans

So far, the e-cargo bikes have successfully:

  • Covered 100+ zero-emission miles
  • Reduced van usage
  • Cut down on congestion and idling
  • Boosted staff efficiency and morale

London Colney Parish Council hope their success can inspire others and they encourage other councils to learn from this model and adopt similar initiatives to promote sustainable transport and community wellbeing.

Enviroment Officer for London Coley Parish Council, Matt Fisher, said:

“It’s about more than just transport—it’s a platform for behaviour change, leadership, and local pride.”
